# Fictional example: hand off an inbox request

## Source boundary

This example is fictional. The source for the lesson is the two sample requests below. The inbox tool and its labels are otherwise unknown.

## Fictional requests

**Request 1 / demo**

> From: Maya
> Subject: projector setup
> “Can someone confirm whether the small room projector is available for Thursday’s fictional workshop? If it is, please tell me what I need to bring.”

**Request 2 / practice**

> From: Luis
> Subject: visitor list
> “Please add the three fictional visitors for Friday and tell me who should approve the list before it is shared.”

## Short demo

1. Start with Request 1 and read it without changing the inbox.
2. Copy only the request, desired outcome and open question into a draft handoff note.
3. Mark the note `Needs review` and ask the coordinator to confirm the open question.
4. Stop before sending or changing any record.

### Filled draft handoff note

- **Request:** Confirm whether the small room projector is available for Thursday’s fictional workshop.
- **Desired outcome:** Know whether the projector is available and what the requester needs to bring.
- **Open question:** Which person should confirm availability and the required items?
- **Source support:** Request 1 asks for availability and what to bring; it does not name an approver.
- **State:** `Needs review`

## Practice task

Use Request 2. Draft the same three fields and mark the open question. Leave the inbox and any external message unchanged.

## Success check

The note names the request, the desired outcome and one unresolved question; a reviewer can tell which source passage supports each field; no message was sent and no record was changed.

## Common error and recovery

If the learner turns an assumption into a fact, highlight the unsupported phrase, label it `Unknown`, and return to the source request. Do not continue to a send or update step.

## Facilitator notes

Pause after the source read and ask, “Which words came from the request?” If the learner is stuck, provide the three field names without filling their values. Verify any real inbox behavior separately before teaching it.
